Happy New Year! Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? I have – to be more active and health conscience than I was in 2014. If you share this resolve, here are some ideas for you:

Take a Hike – start at the Palace of Fine Arts and walk 5.2 miles to Sutro Baths. This lovely route takes you past Crissy Field, Fort Point, China Beach, the Legion of Honor and finally to Sutro Baths. Reward yourself with breakfast or lunch at the Cliff House. View trail.

Ride A Bike – See our friends at Blazing Saddles and rent a bike. They have bikes of all kinds including adult, children and tandem. Helmuts and all safety equipment are provided. Self-guided and guided tours and group outings are available. 2555 Powell Street. (415) 222-8888 Learn More
Climb a Rock – No need to check the weather because this rock wall is indoors at Planet Granite. Located in the heart of the Presidio by the Golden Gate Bridge, PG San Francisco boasts not just amazing climbing and bouldering terrain, but fantastic views across Crissy Field. With 25,000 square feet of climbing, a full fitness and cardio area, two yoga studios and top out bouldering, PG San Francisco combines the best of climbing, yoga and fitness. 924 Mason Street. (415) 692-3434 Learn More
Run a Race – San Francisco has a huge running population and, believe it or not, features 19 road races in January ranging from 5k to a half marathon. Check out the Waterfront 10k/5k event which is sponsored by the Dolphin South End Runners on January 18. Learn More

Greens Restaurant
– Greens opened in 1979 as part of San Francisco Zen Center, which includes Green Gulch Farm and Tassajara Zen Mountain center. Located at historic Fort Mason Center, in a former cavernous machine shop, Greens overlooks the San Francisco Marina with views of the Golden Gate and Marin Headlands. Green Gulch Farm, in Marin County, less than an hour north of the city, is a residential Zen community and bountiful organic farm. Year-round it provides the restaurant with seasonal produce ranging from chard, leeks and winter squash to flowering herbs – a myriad of fresh garden edibles tended with care. 2 Marina Blvd. (415) 771-6222 Learn More

The Plant Organic Café
– At Pier 3, The Plant is a casual upscale café and restaurant. Situated on San Francisco’s Embarcadero, minutes’ walk from Fisherman’s Wharf and the Ferry Building, it offers both open and covered outdoor seating along the waterfront and Embarcadero. Sourcing ingredients from many of the same farms you’ll find at the nearby farmers’ market, the Plant prepares local seasonal fair, with the Pier 3 location offering a large selection of fresh sustainable seafood and refreshing cocktails.
